A COMMUNITY SHRED EVENT – COMMITMENT AND CARING

Kings Isle community in Port St. Lucie requested a shred event for its residents. We believe that nothing says caring such as providing an opportunity for residents to protect themselves from identity theft and fraud. They drove, walked and biked over to the shred truck to have their confidential documents shredded on-site.

Approximately 3 tons of paper were shredded at their location. All shredded material was taken away to be recycled into new paper products. No documents can be put back together and no paper will end up in landfills. Everyone left with the peace of mind that their sensitive information was securely destroyed. Residents who wanted to witness the destruction of their documents were able to do so through the truck’s video monitor.

Having access to a local shredding company to perform on-site shredding service on a weekend to accommodate residents is a great community resource to have at your disposal. Someone reported “I have sensitive military stuff that I have to see shredded.” Another person reported “I’ve got bills here since my husband died 8 years ago. Thanks for offering this. Otherwise, it would burn out my shredder.”

We appreciated the opportunity to provide this community shred event for Kings Isle and the mutual admiration from both sides was heartwarming as both parties showed their appreciation for a well-organized, safe and secure event.  It was also a fun event – coffee, muffins and other goodies were available for all.

We continue to hear “we are paperless”; “we use office shredders”; “we don’t shred much”; “we are a small office”; or “we can’t afford a shredding service.”

In all of those statements, there might be a tinge of truth but every business has the capacity to use a recurring shredding service. DOCUMENT SHREDDING GUIDELINES—SHOULD WE LET IT GO OR KEEP IT?

Whether you are an individual or operate a business, shredding guidelines will always apply. The tendency is to keep everything but that is impossible as a homeowner or business owner. Keeping documents longer than you need to will create opportunities for security breaches, identity theft, and exposure to liability.
